Oliver Whang writes mostly for The New York Times and The New York Times Magazine, but also for The New Yorker, the London Review of Books, and other publications. He was a recipient of the 2026 American Mosaic Journalism Prize for work he did in eastern Kentucky. He is currently a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is working on a novel.
